COVID 19: How UoSS currently functions

Below are the most frequently asked questions by the academic community. We hope that the following answers will help you function in the near future. The actions that were undertaken by the University authorities serve the purpose of eliminating the possibility of the virus spreading among members of the academic community and their families.

FAQ - frequently asked questions

Restrictions apply to: movement, travelling, being in public spaces.

What is it about? Leaving the house should be kept to a minimum, while staying at least two metres away from other pedestrians.

You can move in the case of:

  • travelling to and from work (it also applies to the purchase of goods and services associated with business activities),
  • volunteering in order to fight COVID-19 (it applies to helping persons in quarantine or those who should not leave their houses),
  • carrying out activities necessary for everyday life (which includes, among others, necessary shopping, buying medicine, medical appointments, taking care of relatives).

Ban on using parks, forests, beaches, boulevards, promenades or city bikes

Restriction applies to: being in public green areas. The ban applies to parks, forests, squares, lawns, promenades, boulevards, botanical gardens and zoological gardens or children playgrounds. The ban also includes beaches.

It is also prohibited to use city bikes.

Valid until: April 19, 2020

Public transport

Restriction applies to: public transport.

What is it about? On the bus, tram or subway, only half of the seats can be occupied. It is best when every other seat is left empty. If there are 70 seats in the vehicle, it can accommodate up to 35 people.

Ban on meetings and events

Restriction applies to: organization of gatherings, meetings, events.

What is it about? It is forbidden to organize any gatherings, meetings or events for more than 2 people. This restriction does not apply to meeting relatives.
Excluded are: workplaces.
However, employees will have to provide additional security measures to their employees. In any case:

  • employees must use gloves or have access to liquid disinfectants,
  • workplaces of individual persons must be at least 1.5 meters from each other.

If an employer is not able to ensure this distance (1.5 m) due to objective reasons, e.g. because the production line does not allow it, he/she has the right to deviate from this principle, but only while providing personal protective equipment to fight the epidemic.

Religious celebrations

Restriction applies to: participation in religious events.

What is it about? Up to 5 people can participate at the same time in a mass or any other religious rite, excluding those who exercise the ministry (in case of funerals – people employed by the funeral parlour).

Valid until: April 19, 2020

Polish borders

Restriction applies to: crossing Polish borders by foreigners

What is it about? The borders of our country can be crossed only by:

  • Polish citizens,
  • foreigners who are spouses or children of Polish citizens or are under the care of Polish citizens,
  • people who hold the Pole’s Card,
  • diplomats,
  • persons with a permanent or temporary residence in Poland or a work permit,

in special cases, the commanding officer of the Border Guard, with the consent of the Chief Commander of the Border Guard, can allow a foreigner to enter Poland in the manner specified in the Act of 12 December 2013 on foreigners (Journal of Laws of 2020 item 35).

foreigners who operate a means of transport used for the transportation of goods.

Catering services

Restriction applies to: restaurants, cafés and bars.

Recommendations: All restaurants, cafés and bars can only provide takeout and delivery services. It is not possible to serve meals or drinks on the premises.

Valid until: April 19, 2020


Restriction applies to: activities of cultural institutions

Recommendations: All cultural institutions remain closed. These include, among others, museums, art galleries, concert halls, opera houses, cinemas, movie clubs, libraries, archives and constant cultural activities.

Important! The following remain closed until further notice: gyms, swimming pools, fitness and dance clubs.

What should I do if I think I might have COVID-19 disease?

According to the recommendations of the Chief Sanitary Inspector if you took part in the event where someone was diagnosed positive, have symptoms or had contact with an infected person, stay home, avoid meeting other people and notify the sanitary and epidemiological station immediately by telephone.

The main symptoms:

  • fever
  • cough
  • shortness of breathing

If you develop emergency warning sights* don’t wait, call helpline immediately:

  • trouble breathing
  • persistent pain or pressure in the chest
  • new confusion or inability to arouse
  • bluish lips or face

*This list is not all inclusive. Please consult your medical provider for any other symptoms that are severe or concerning.

Request for assistance for UoSS students

On 26 March 2020, the social Academy of Sciences received a positive decision from the Department of Higher Education to increase the grant for the scholarship fund for the academic year 2019/2020.  Interested persons meeting the criteria are asked to follow the instructions provided and complete their application as soon as possible.

A student who is temporarily in a difficult life situation may apply for a one-off allowance. In particular, the basis for inference is the loss of a source of income by a student or family member due to the constraints the functioning of employers associated with the introduction of a Coronavirus outbreak in the country.
